Meidum Pyramid
The pyramid was originally 93m high and built with a square base with sides measuring about 114m long, an authentic desert adventure; is believed to be the first attempt to build a pyramid and the first Egyptian pyramid to have an above ground burial chamber beautifully decorated with arch-shaped walls; built by Snefru (father of Khufu). It was once an 8 level structure; now only 3 levels have stood the test of time. The entrance of the Pyramid was located almost 30 m above ground level in the northern face. It led to a corridor that descends 54m, a unique feature among all the other descending corridors; one of the easiest passageways to traverse. You need a flashlight to light your way; this is one of Egypt’s least visited sites. Most modern travellers primarily visit sites such as the Pyramids of Giza or the Step Pyramid of Sakkara but it should be on everyone list at least once to visit.
Meidum Pyramid is located 65 km to the South of Sakkara and can be visited as part of a Fayoum tour.
It’s permitted to go inside the Pyramids and visit the burial chamber.
